Lately, I have seen little but complaint about the English language dub of Sailor Moon by DiC/Cloverway. People bash every little teeny tiny bit that was changed during the translation. People were surprised that Uranus and Neptune are dubbed as cousins rather than lovers. Well, here's my response to you all: IT IS FINE. Nothing a dubbing company can do can actually hurt you. Now, on to the reasons why I think the dub is a-ok.

1. Generally speaking, the dub version is accurate to the overall plot. It really is just a translation edited for the American viewing audience.
2. Some things about the dub can be funnier/better than the original. (At least in my humble opinion.) Take for instance Uranus' "poof pants" comments to Eudial. LOL And, Rini's new voice actress is one of the cutest I've heard, excluding Usagi's original. Even DiC did things better sometimes. Complain as you may, I like some of the English songs, most notably "Carry On" as played during the final battle against Queen Beryl.
3. Not all of the changes are the "fault" of the dubbing company. Some of it is due to the rules and regulations the US places on television broadcast. The blame goes to our current society that believes cartoons can only be for children, and those children must be protected from violence at all costs. Remember how Prince Endymion picked up Sailormoon and strangled her in the final episode of the Japanese? American cartoons are not allowed to show strangulation.
4. In a related point, the name changes are to be blamed on our society as well. Since the audience is little bitty kids, how can they make sense of these foreign-sounding names?
5. It is just entertainment. Do not take it so seriously.
6. My most convincing argument (at least to myself) is: it could have been SO much worse. The English version rights to BSSM did not have to be bought by DiC. They could have been purchased by Saban, who would not have just dubbed the Japanese anime. They would have just used the name and likeness of BSSM to create their own show. Live action and brand-new very very bad animation. Any original plot? Who knows. It was so horrible, it became strangely fascinating. It also was a pick-me-up whenever I was feeling bad about myself. After all, I couldn't create anything THAT bad.

In case any of you are wondering, I have seen all 200 episodes of Sailor Moon, plus all the movies and specials. I have seen most of the Japanese episodes, and all of the dubbed ones. I wrote this rant because I feel the dub should be appreciated and loved for what it is, not nit-picked over little things it isn't. However, my personal favorite is the original Japanese, if only for Usagi's voice actress and there being all 200 episodes of it.
